A brief history of Road to Hire

2013 - 2016

Origins

• Golden Door Scholars launched to provide scholarships and wraparound support for high-achieving students.
• Code to Hire program begins, teaching coding and career prep skills.
• Road to Hire officially launches, expanding tech training, mentorship, and career support.

2018 - 2021

Expansion

• High School Success program expands from after-school/weekend coding into in-school Charlotte-Mecklenburg School courses.
• College Success program launches, pairing participants with personal coaches.
• Scholarship and employer partnerships grow rapidly across Charlotte.

2022 - 2023

Scaling

• Road to Hire integrates programs under one umbrella, strengthening support for participants across education and career.
• 1,700+ participants are engaged across pathways, from high school programming, college program, scholarships, and apprenticeships.

2025 & BEYOND

Future Vision

• Serving more than 3,300+ young adults in CLT today.
• Goal: Scale to 200+ graduates annually transitioned into high-paying Charlotte careers.
• Long-term vision: Continue expanding access, strengthening workforce partnerships, and driving measurable community impact.
